History and timeless tradition

coffee shop

Améa is a Mediterranean-inspired gourmand resto + coffee shop nestled within Montreal’s historic Maison Alcan building. Derived from the French word "âme" meaning soul, Améa is an ode to the vision, warmth and heart behind our menu.

We created Améa as a gathering space for people to feel at home, and a sense of community, within our city’s Golden Square Mile. We are inspired by history and timeless tradition. Enjoy authentic dishes made with the highest-quality seasonal ingredients from Quebec and Europe as well as homemade breads, pizza in teglia and pastries.

The team

Améa was conceptualized and created by the team behind Ristorante Beatrice; the Italian eatery on Sherbrooke Street which has been a cornerstone of the Montreal restaurant scene for the last 25 years.

The founders have had a lifelong passion for creating authentic dishes made with heart and cultivated with the finest quality local and European ingredients. They believe that community and connection is created a tavola - at the table while sharing and savouring meals that inspire joy.

Many members of our team have had years of experience at the helm of Ristorante Beatrice and bring the same attention to detail and craftmanship to Améa.

Our chef

Mike Coppa

Michael is at the helm of the Améa kitchen, creating a Mediterranean-inspired menu mixing classic dishes like pizza romana in teglia as well as an array of breakfast and lunch dishes with a twist; including a selection of vegetarian and vegan options. For over 10 years, Michael was a pastaio and pastry chef at Ristorante Beatrice, one of Montreal’s top Italian restaurants that has been a cornerstone of the city’s culinary scene for the last 25 years. Michael grew up in the kitchen of an Italian home. His grandmother was his biggest inspiration and he spent countless hours helping her make classic Italian dishes for the family that were rooted in simplicity and tradition, yet rich and flavourful. Weekends were spent exploring new recipes; his passion led him to culinary school and cultivating his passion and zest for cooking at some of Montreal and Toronto’s top restaurants.

sherbrooke

Maison Alcan  is a building complex located on Sherbrooke Street in the Golden Square Mile district of Montreal. The complex was used to house the world headquarters for Alcan, now part of Rio Tinto Alcan, until 2015. Completed in 1983, the complex's integration of new construction with restored or renovated buildings marked a turning point in corporate Montreal's approach to development.

Partners

Améa is honoured to collaborate with top local Montreal brands that offer an exceptional array of artisanal products and coffees.

The breads we use for our crostinos are baked daily by the team at Miette Boulangerie based out of Montreal. Their exceptional line of breads are created with the finest local organic flours and led with sustainable practices and a commitment to low-intervention craft baking.
